Poncho Shirt Pattern - The Assembly Line

The Poncho Shirt combines the style of a classic shirt with the relaxed fit of a poncho! Designed as a half-circle shirt with a flowing silhouette, it is sewn together at the shoulders and under the arms. It features a traditional button closure and a classic collar. Customize it with a plain design, a panel, or a frill for added flair.

Available in sizes S, L, and 3XL, fitting XS–3XL.

Styling Inspiration
The checkered set is the poncho shirt styled with an elongated pair of Culottes
The white shirt is paired with Pleated Trousers.
The multicoloured shirt is styled with Barrel leg trousers.

FIND YOUR SIZE
Compare your body measurements with our SIZE GUIDE. The Poncho shirt has a very generous fit, so primarily use your neck measurement for sizing. Measure around your neck and compare it to the COLLAR AROUNDmeasurement in the list below.

Fabric requirements (in meters) for folded fabric

  S L 3XL
Plain shirt without panel or frill      
110-120 cm fabric width 1.4 n/a n/a
140-150 cm fabric width 1.2 1.3 1.4
For the panel/frill add 0.3 m      

Suggested fabrics
Light to medium-weight fabrics work best. We used fabric from Rekotex, which repurposes high-quality surplus fabric from leading fashion brands. The checkered set is made from a lightweight wool fabric, and both the white and blue shirts are crafted from crisp shirting fabric.

You will also need:

  • Fusible interfacing
  • Shirt buttons approx. 10 mm diameter. For S 6 pcs, for L-3XL 7 pcs.
  • Matching thread

MAKE MORE WITH THIS PATTERN

  • Sew the shirt in colour blocks
  • Make the collar in another fabric
  • Make the frill in lace or add fringes
  • Add another collar to the shirt
